Here is a list of the features we have planned for our 1.0 release of BaconMap. We've talked internally a little bit about each of these, but haven't started officially on any of them yet. We would love to have someone take on some of these projects and help us out with your creativity and expertise.
The BaconMap developers have put together a great working application, even in its beta category, but much more needs to be done. There are some additional features needed before BaconMap can be released as 1.0 version.
The features to be added will strengthen BaconMap’s application objective: IT resource management and wiki. BaconMap is NOT a monitoring system, it is an IT brain trust repository, information manager and system dependency visualizer. As such the following is list of items needing to be added to BaconMap:
• Reports
• Additional reports with additional report parameters
• Export information to CSV file format
• Maintenance
• A cleanup agent to ensure the sanity of the system and database
• A utility to change the encryption password and re-encrypt documents with the new password
• GraphViz (Perhaps replace 3rd party graphing software)
• Ideally - Develop BaconMap’s own graphing module
• Meet the current graphing requirements
• Allow for custom BaconMap icons
• Generate images as output stream to browser rather than storing on server
• BaconMap Cosmetic issues and functionality
• Add support for a scheduled maintenance module
• Allowing for Maintenance dates, scheduling, and logs
• Ability to add documents to resources from the ‘Add page’ and the ‘Context menu’
• Update document upload and encryption UI and backend to be more robust
• Update login authentication system and user management to be more robust
• Documentation
• Add contextual help to all BaconMap fields
• Create full official documentation for all features in both PDF and HTML formats
• Add optional help boxes which link to BaconMap Documentation
•Integrate with Nagios
•Display resource specific information obtained from Nagios.
The BaconMap crew is currently assessing what information would be most beneficial to display.
